How is climate change impacting communities across the West?
Extreme heat caused by climate change is impacting cities, agricultural lands and forests across the western United States. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “Heat waves are occurring more often than they used to in major cities… and their frequency has increased steadily, from an average of two heat waves per year during the 1960s to six per year during the 2010s.” Heat waves have also become more intense, long-lasting and dangerous for cities and neighborhoods where extreme heat is uncommon.
