Urban Nature: Ensuring Access to Green Space for All

June 3, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In this webinar, we will discuss why urban nature is important and what US cities are doing to expand access to all.

Laura Jackson with EPA’s Sustainable and Healthy Communities Research Program will serve as moderator. Julie Lyons Bricker will discuss the City of Royal Oak, MI’s recent work on the Green Spaces credit in LEED v4.1 for Cities, including how more than 90% of residents are within a 1/2 mile walk distance of a public park. Mark Bernstein will share his work in downtown Denver to increase urban tree canopy, provide opportunities for shade and improve air quality for residents. Finally, Shelby Buso will share the City of Atlanta’s work to support food forests, preserve urban nature through land acquisition, and provide residents access to nature and the outdoors through the Atlanta Beltline.
