Join ULI SF for a member-exclusive tour of the Homekey LifeMoves Mountain View project, a non-congregate shelter for individuals, couples, and families with children experiencing homelessness. This innovative project is a public-private partnership and winner of the 2022 ULI Americas Awards for Excellence, and it serves as a role model for interim housing community developments. It aims to create safe, high-quality, cost-effective and fast moving solutions to serve individuals experiencing homelessness. The project went from land acquisition and design/entitlements to occupancy in less than 7 months and was honored by Governor Gavin Newsom.
LifeMoves Mountain View is a welcoming, dignified, and safe interim housing community that offers a private unit for each household – whether a family, a couple, a single adult experiencing homelessness – while providing intensive case management and support services designed to return people to stability. With 100 units and ADA-compliant buildings for case management, educational workshops, dining, recreation, laundry, and even a pet area, LifeMoves Mountain View is a modern, comfortable place to temporarily call home.
The development team consisting of LifeMoves and Sares Regis Group of Northern California successfully implemented a strategy to identify underutilized land and rapidly build housing with prefabricated, modular structures. Other members of the project team included The Office of Charles F. Bloszies, FAIA, who developed the modular site design concept and provided architectural design and structural engineering. XL Construction served as the general contractor while Arup provided MEPF engineering, BKF Engineers was the civil engineer and WEST was the environmental engineer. Modular housing partners included Connect Homes (individual sleeping units), indieDwell (family units), Urban Bloc (dining, bathrooms, laundry), and Falcon (case management and support service rooms).
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from LifeMoves and Sares Regis leaders about how this project came to life and visit select spaces. We’ll have the opportunity to continue the conversation at a host happy hour at a nearby venue.
