At the southern edge of the city, Sunnydale HOPE SF is one of San Francisco’s biggest development projects. The project transforms 50 acres of WWII-era public housing into a new mixed-income neighborhood featuring over 1,700 new affordable and market-rate homes, new streets and infrastructure, 3.5 acres of new green space, and approximately 60,000 square feet of new neighborhood-serving community and retail spaces. The development aims to rehouse neighborhood residents in new homes of comparable size.
This event will include tours of the Hub, a new community center, Amani and Nia, and two new affordable housing buildings with ground-floor retail, collectively serving as a gateway to the revitalized neighborhood. A panel will discuss how development and design processes can support community building, encourage social interactions, produce healthy homes, and create resilient spaces that serve all members of the community.
