Over the past 30 years, Melbourne has grown by more than two million people, transforming into a vibrant, multicultural global city. Now, with a population exceeding five million, the city faces new challenges—recovering from COVID-19, managing State debt, addressing affordability, and reigniting a sluggish property sector grappling with rising costs.

Looking ahead, Melbourne is projected to grow by another three million people by 2050. This level of expansion will profoundly reshape the city—physically, economically, and culturally. It will demand bold changes in how we plan, design, and deliver our built environment, placing the property sector at the centre of the city’s evolution.
