ULI Belgium & Luxembourg | Belgian Affordable Living Council: Lessons from the Past and Designs for the Future

June 21, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Le Foyer Laekenois manages the ‘Modelwijk’ or ‘Cité Modèle’ in the Brussels region. The neighborhood designed in 1955 by Renaat Braem for 1.029 social housing units was refurbished starting in 2010. The premises comprise a lot of services, amenities and greenery and still is an example for affordable living.

We want to explore the best practices and pitfalls in order to learn from the past and deliver take-aways for future developments.

The tour will be guided by the Director of the social housing company, Christophe Pourtois, and the urban planning department of the Brussels Region.
