The Impacts of Impact Fees

November 6, 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Hamstrung by Prop. 13, cities often rely on the impact fees from new development to fund infrastructure or other necessary investments. While these fees can be an important tool, they also increase the price of new construction, sometimes rendering projects unfeasible in a high-cost environment like the Bay Area. With this in mind, what are best practices for ensuring that cities have a funding tool while still enabling new development to occur? How are cities and the state thinking about fees today? Join us for a conversation with researchers, city staff and developers grappling with these tensions. Co-presented by SV@Home and the Northern California Section of the American Planning Association.
