More attention has been paid recently to the development potential of church parking lots, with some cities relaxing development standards to facilitate the construction of affordable housing on religious properties. Using statewide data, the Terner Center has examined how much land could actually be opened up for development through these reforms and where this land is located. This work has implications for scaling these ideas statewide as part of a broader solution for facilitating more housing to meet our needs.
