SITES Community Call: How a healthy landscape improves human health and well-being
Nearly 40 years of scientific research demonstrates that parks and other green environments play an important—even crucial—role in human health and well being. Join the upcoming SITES Community Call to learn how SITES improves health on a development project. Hear from Dr. Kathleen Wolf, a social scientist and former SITES technical advisor, who will review the multiple benefits (and supporting research) of being outdoors. Mark D’Amico, manager of Studio Phipps, a landscape design group that aims to inspire commercial clients to look at nature differently by considering ways to integrate the natural world into buildings and find feasible solutions to sustainability challenges, will talk about the on-the-ground experience at Pittsburgh’s Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Much of this scientific evidence informed the health-related credits in the SITES Rating System. SITES certified projects will also be featured to illustrate designs which focused on improving the project’s health and wellness benefits.
