Anchoring in Community

September 30 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Responding directly to local needs is the cornerstone of building strong communities. This session explores how development can serve as a true community anchor, featuring two award-winning projects: Highland Phase II and the Eliza + Inwood Library – Joseph and Sheila Rosenblatt Building.

  • Highland Phase II uses creative financing and extensive community engagement to offer a replicable model for converting dormant malls into vibrant, mixed-use community anchors.
  • The Eliza + Inwood Library – Joseph and Sheila Rosenblatt Building pairs a light-filled public library with affordable housing to reflect a new standard for collaboration between the city, non-profit developers, and the New York Public Library.
