While visible progress along Philadelphia’s Lower Schuylkill River has slowed, the vision for a vibrant, innovation-driven district remains firmly in motion. We’re on the precipice of major investment milestones: the upcoming FloatLab floating education & river-access platform at Bartram’s Garden, trail and transit enhancements that will better link Southwest neighborhoods to the river and city, and targeted funding for environmental remediation and neighborhood revitalization. (For example: the FloatLab—a 75-foot-wide floating structure on the Schuylkill—will open in 2026 and serve as a public access point, classroom, arts venue and kayak launch.) PIDC and the City of Philadelphia are playing the long game—building on lessons from the successful Pennovation Works project to shape the next phase of development with strategy, patience, and purpose.
