There’s no denying that state and local governments are getting serious about getting off fossil fuels and protecting our climate. Over the last few years, cities across California and other Western states have mandated that all new construction be all-electric. Now, many cities are pushing for the electrification of existing buildings as well.

This session will paint the big picture of why we need to electrify buildings and how electrification fits into net zero targets and the emerging clean energy economy. Panelists will speak to the business and policy drivers for building electrification, as well as upcoming state and local measures, including the City of San Jose’s existing building electrification plans. The conversation will also cover the business reality of renovation costs, operating costs, tenant experience, health and safety, asset value, and market and investor demands.
